Environmental Management

At Celsia, we are committed to the challenge of a greener planet. Our commitment to the environment is a constant action towards sustainability.

GRI (3-3) (2-23) We integrate environmental guidelines into our strategy to guarantee continuous improvement in our performance within the framework of our management system and legal compliance. We launch innovative initiatives that promote the conservation and efficient use of natural resources, the comprehensive management of impacts under the principle of mitigation hierarchy and due diligence throughout the value chain, with the participation of our stakeholders, to contribute to our company’s permanence in the future

Our Management

GRI (3-3) (2-23) For us, environmental management is a philosophy that drives us to act proactively. We promote the rational use of natural resources, transformative conservation actions, comprehensive management of environmental impacts and due diligence throughout the value chain, based on our Environmental Policy, which is how we guarantee the sustainability of our business. Our policy is a clear framework of action that guides employees’ interactions with stakeholders. In addition, we commit to complying with all environmental standards and regulations, and to continuously improve our processes. In this sense, the policy proposes specific goals and objectives to reduce the environmental impacts of our operations:

In short, our Environmental Policy is a commitment to the present and the future. It is the roadmap to building a business that is responsible for the environment in which we operate.

Furthermore, we ratify the commitments we have set for ourselves in the medium and long-term:

Thanks to our good socio-environmental practices, we are certified in the ISO 14001 – 2015 standard, which ensures compliance with current regulations and taking actions for continuous improvement in the operation and/or maintenance activities of our assets.

Environmental Management System

Certification, Verification and Audit of the Environmental Management System

Coverage is calculated based on the installed capacity (MW) within the scope of the certification, with respect to the total installed capacity of the organization, including operations in Central America.

Environmental Impact Assessments

GRI (413-1) Our socio-environmental team coordinates the participation of stakeholders in projects or assetsby identifying restrictions and preparing EIAs and EMPs to formulate and implement measures under the principle of mitigation hierarchy to impact management.

In 2023, the National Environmental License Authority (ANLA, for the Spanish original) granted us an environmental license to develop the project “New Toluviejo 220 kV Substation and Associated Transmission Lines – Section 2” in the department of Bolívar.

The environmental studies of the organization’s assets in operation and new projects are public and form part of the files of the environmental authorities for the places in which we are present.

A summary of the Environmental Impact Studies (EIA) and the Environmental Management Plans (EMP) are available for consultation on our website. They contain geographical information, the year operations began, environmental license number and/or environmental management plan resolution, management measures and the environmental authority responsible for control and monitoring.

Environmental Investment

The main activities or projects executed through voluntary and mandatory environmental investment in 2023 were:

Voluntary:
  • Contributions to the Tuluá – Morales River Users Association, conservation of the Tuluá River basin.
  • Support for environmental education activities in the areas of influence.
  • Strategic engagement.
Mandatory
  • Implementation of environmental management plans.
  • Environmental licenses.
  • Environmental studies for procedures.
  • Waste disposal.
  • GHG mitigation initiatives.
  • Environmental payments to authorities.
  • Environmental permits.
  • Environmental management system.

Main Results

GRI (3-3) (2-27) (307-1) In the last four years, Celsia has had no fines or environmental violations derived from the operations and maintenance of our assets.

We continued the annual socio-environmental legal compliance evaluations, which allow us to mitigate risks and identify opportunities for the operation and construction of assets.

We conserve watersheds in the departments in which we are present.

We remain carbon neutral certified under the Guide for carbon neutral verification and certification by Icontec. The goal we have set is to maintain it until 2030.

We managed to expand the scope of the ISO 14001:2015 certification for the Espinal and La Paila solar farms.

Our goals and objectives are aimed at preventing, reducing, mitigating and offsetting the impacts we may cause in our operating environments under the principle of mitigation hierarchy and building relationships of mutual respect and value generation with our stakeholders.
